Low saturated fats and high Vitamin E content make Sunflower seeds oil one of the best vegetable oil alternatives for healthy eating. Oil should be removed to separate it from solids by using one of the many processes. For cooking applications, three types of sunflower oil are produced, which are different in oleic levels, such as: Nusun, linoleic and high oleic. Oil-seed-type sunflower seeds are used for oil production, rather than the seeds of common snack seeds.

There are two method to extract oil from sunflower seed that is Hot pressed and cold pressed with slightly different flavors in the finished product. In a cold press, the hull is removed; The seeds are broken into small pieces and send to oil extraction machine which extract oil from the seeds, and the oilckae throughout the cone. As a result oil is usually labeled as "extra-virgin" sunflower oil, but this process leaves much oil in the oilseed. Hot presses work similar to cold presses, but the seeds are heated before passing through the oil press machine for extraction. Heat reduces the viscosity of oil, so it presses on more easily than the seed on pressing; Think of the flow of refrigerated honey and the flow of microwaved honey. Pressing hot in more extracted oil results, but the flavor is slightly different as the difference between roasted or uncut cooked nuts. In some cases, a solvent extraction method applied to increase the amount of oil extraction. After pressing the seeds through the cold or hot press method, solvent extraction method can be applied to help remove any remaining oil from the oilcake.
